Longines Evidenza
Who
could forget the 1920s? It was a time of fast-paced change practically
everywhere, much of it definite progress, along with growing freedom – for
artists, of course, and for stylists as well. Fashion and design threw off
rigid, centuries-old rules while personal accessories of every description grew
increasingly handy, compact and stylish. The ladies’ and men’s watches of the
new Longines Evidenza collection draw their inspiration from that broad shift in
habits and styles. While a 1925 model inspired the specific design of Longines
Evidenza, its typical tonneau shape goes back to a Longines dating from 1911.
The Longines Evidenza’s relaxed good looks are obvious at
a glance, recalling the Jazz Age and the first stars of talking (and singing)
movies, their spectacular convertible limousines, fabled lifestyle and sense of
lighthearted elegance. The period inspired countless memories and myths that are
still largely with us in much of the world today.
In
gloss-polished stainless steel or in 18K yellow or pink gold, the Longines
Evidenza’s cambered-profile case features a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal
whose curvature underscores the case’s sweeping lines. It protects a flinqué
silvered or black dial bearing period-style Arabic or Roman numerals swept by
blued-metal hands. The watches come fitted with either a matching metal bracelet
or a high-quality brown leather strap, optionally with deployment clasp. They
are water-resistant to 30 meters (100 ft). Selected stainless steel models
feature a setting of Top Wesselton VVS diamonds: 156 stones totaling 1.48 carats
on women’s watches and 169 representing 2.53 carats on men’s models.
All Longines Evidenza timepieces are equipped with a a
self-winding mechanical movement, underscoring Longines’ vast, centuries-old
horological traditions. Women’s models feature a 20-jewel L595 caliber with
center seconds hand while men’s designs contain a 30-jewel L615 movement with a
subdial for the seconds. Both models provide 42 hours of power reserve.
The
Longines Evidenza collection also includes a chronograph available in 18K yellow
or pink gold as well as in stainless steel, the latter optionally set with 208
Top Wesselton VVS diamonds representing 3.12 carats with a choice of a flinqué
silvered or black dial. It is fitted with an L650 self-winding mechanical
chronograph movement with center chronograph hand, 30-minute and 12-hour
totalizers at 9 and at 3 o’clock respectively plus a subdial for the seconds and
a date calendar at 6 o’clock, providing 46 hours of power reserve.
Period style, present-day spirit
The aesthetic stylishness evident throughout the Longines
Evidenza collection underscores yet again the sure judgment and know-how of
Longines’ styling teams. Their deftness at welding a period style, today often
viewed as typical of a mellow golden time, with today’s all-round technological
excellence has produced a watch collection with unmistakable personality,
discreetly but durably elegant. Its spirit reaches out to such luminous
personalities as the actress Audrey Hepburn and the unforgettable Humphrey
Bogart, whose relaxed style included the wristwatch he wore at the height of his
career, a tonneau-shaped Longines in gold. “Play it again, Sam” he drawled
memorably in the film “Casablanca”. With its Evidenza collection, Longines has
just obliged him. Beautifully.
Longines is a company of the Swatch Group Ltd, the world’s leading watch
manufacturer, with no fewer than 158 production sites in Switzerland.
