For its new contemporary collection Longines is focusing on youth. Today it is young people who are influencing fashion, ideas and style more than ever. And what a style it is! The new Longines LungoMare collection is a convincing demonstration of this. With this collection the era inspires an aesthetic style which is subtly modest – a boldly contemporary style based on the solid historical heritage of a brand which has many successes under its belt. Water-resistant to 330 feet (100 meters) , the models in this new collection, perfectly represented by the young generation of rising stars who are the ambassadors of Longines’ elegance, are an invitation to enjoy moments of leisure, lazing on the elegant beaches of the Mediterranean resorts. As a movement of strong aesthetic renewal, Art Deco found a fertile base at Longines during the 1920s and 30s which soon gave birth to a form of wristwatch that was described as “round in a square” and that would remain popular throughout the 20th century, right up to the present day. The Swiss watch brand has now launched its new, contemporary Longines LungoMare collection, based on a model dating from 1933, celebrating the eternal youth of a style which has taken the 21st century by storm.
For the design of this new collection Longines did not hesitate to call on the talent of a young designer who had just qualified at the art school in La-Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland. By taking a fresh look at watch design she subtly reinterpreted the “round in a square”, combining the shape of the case with an unquestionably up-to-date face. And the result? A case made out of glimmering metal with racy and elegant lines, revealing a sharp, contrasted dial. A model which is water-resistant to 330 feet (100 meters). Carpe diem – seize the moment – this new generation is saying. Whether it’s at a pavement café at the Lido in Ostia, in a bar on the Baie des Anges or in an elegant club in Monte Carlo. A boldly contemporary design Three sizes crafted out of fashionable metal - ladies’, midsize and men’s, all made out of polished stainless steel – a choice more appreciated than ever by today’s wearers. Fitted with a discreet, polished bezel, the case of the Longines LungoMare, which is water-resistant to 330 feet (100 meters), is combined with a choice of either a stainless steel bracelet or a brown or black genuine leather strap.
The collection also includes the most useful of additional options: a chronograph with a 1/10th second totalizer, activated by a pair of push-pieces which blend smoothly into the side of the case. In addition to the date aperture and the subdial for the seconds at 6 o’clock, this model also features a 1/10th second totalizer at 2 o’clock and a 12-hour totalizer at 10 o’clock. Against
a finely silvered grained or black varnished background, the design of the dial
combines 3 large Arabic numerals and 8 hour-markers which perfectly enhance the
hands, the whole surrounded by a raised minute-track swept by a fine central
seconds hand, plus a date aperture at 3 o’clock. The ladies’ and midsize
versions are fitted with an L152 quartz movement, while the men’s model has an
L157 quartz movement.
To
embody this new contemporary spirit, Longines has added to its family of
ambassadors dancer Roberto Bolle – one of the most talented stars of his
generation, who is contracted to La Scala in Milan, Italy. While his stage
performance has long been considered a model of efficiency and elegance among
his peers, his charisma, his presence and his commitment have all helped to win
him the honour of being one of UNICEF’s youngest ambassadors. All these
characteristics naturally meant that he is an ideal ambassador for this watch
brand too, together with actors Aishwarya Rai (India), Carina Lau (China) and
Oleg Menshikov (Russia).
