Rado V10KRado V10K The abbreviation 'v10k' stands for Vickers 10,000. Vickers is a scale of hardness used particularly in diamond-related technology. The scale goes from zero to 10,000 Vickers – the ultimate value for genuine diamonds and thus the yardstick for everything else. This top value appears even more unique and exclusive when it is known that the stainless steel normally used in the watch trade has a Vickers hardness number of only 200, which makes it 50 times "softer" than diamond.  The creation of a watch with the hardness grading of V 10,000 represents a technological quantum leap. Rado already successfully realized the first practical attempts in this direction several years ago. The test pieces were called 'Concept 1' and 'Vision 1' – both new productions that created a sensation in watch and technology circles. The uniqueness of the 'Vision 1' was even honoured by an entry in the Guinness Book of Records. With the 'v10k', Rado has pushed forward to the absolute summit. The pure, elegant connecting pieces between sapphire crystal and bracelet, as well as the lateral elements, are protected with diamond hardness against scratching. Case back and bracelet clasp are in skin-friendly titanium. As already with the Rado 'eSenza', the crown has been omitted from the 'v10k' too, for reasons of design aesthetics. The time can be easily adjusted on the case back by means of the supplied magnetic contact element. 
After several years of research work together with specialists in nanotechnology, Rado engineers succeeded – using the CVD (Chemical Vapour Deposition) process – in transforming carbon into nanocrystalline diamond particles. Optimization of the processing parameters enabled deposition of a homogenous 100% diamond layer onto the shaped hard metal components. The result: absolute hardness and the inalterability of diamond. Given an elegant and futuristic form by Rado designers – and protected by three international patents.
