A long time focus on sophisticated complications resulted in the permanent
image that Ulysse Nardin is dedicated to gents’ watches only.
Yet, the early sixties witnessed a vast effort to promote ladies watches. In
those days the fashion required small sizes and Ulysse Nardin was one of
the active participants in a number of selected world markets.
With the coming of age of quartz watches, the timepieces became more elegant
thanks to the use of flat movements. The very fact that one could leave a watch
in a drawer for a while and that it would continue keeping exact time also
favoured a new approach in the field of ladies’ watches. It took one full
generation to feel a comeback of mechanical watches in this particular segment.
Needless to say that the change of fashion calling for much larger instruments
